I actually went through the baby blues after the birth of all my 5 kids (It can also happen to moms who had more than one child). I would fall into a dark hole and didn’t have a clue what was going on with my feelings and didn’t know how to get out of it. This lasted for couple of weeks. But eventually, those overwhelming feelings just faded away to my normal self again with the support I got from my husband and families.

Baby Blues Symptoms:

  • The feeling of loneliness
  • The feeling of being very sad (crying for no reason)
  • Intense mood swings
  • You feel irritated by everything
  • Thinking too much, worrying about everything
  • Not feeling good about yourself (Low self-esteem)
  • You don’t feel loved (very sensitive)
  • Feeling of nervousness

Postpartum Depression Symptoms:

  • Intense mood swings
  • Feeling of sadness
  • Thoughts about suicidal
  • Migraine Headaches
  • Feeling mad and angry all the time
  • Feeling of helplessness
  • You don’t have the appetite to eat or you’re overeating
  • Experiencing weight loss
  • Can’t sleep at night
  • Gaining too much weight
  • Can’t seem to focus in anything you do
  • Worrying too much over the baby
  • Thoughts of harming the baby
  • You have no interest in activities
  • Experiencing irregular heart beats (Heart Palpitations)
  • Crying, sobbing over everything
  • You have no interest in being intimate with your partner
  • Don’t feel good about yourself (Low self-esteem)
  • Always the thought of not being a good mother
  • You have no interest in your baby

If you feel that you might have any of these symptoms and it is lasting longer than 6 weeks after the birth of your baby and you're not sure if it is the baby blues or postpartum depression? It would be best for you to see your doctor and let your doctor know how you’re feeling so your doctor can better diagnose your symptoms.
